There has been a flurry of activity at Olympiacos in recent hours, with several players being linked to multiple clubs at the same time. The one that’s “all but done” is that of Remo Freuler, who should already be considered a member of the Piraeus club.
The 34-year-old Swiss midfielder arrived in Athens on a private flight Saturday night; he will undergo medical exams today, and the signing will be announced by Monday at the latest. The former Bologna star, who was a free agent, is expected to sign a two-year contract and be immediately available to José Luis Medilibar.
At the same time, the club is also moving forward with the acquisition of another midfielder, with Toulouse’s Christian Cáceres holding the edge over Racing Santander’s Gustavo Puerta. Olympiacos’ offer to the French club is very close to its asking price for the 26-year-old Venezuelan star, while, in contrast, the Spanish club shows no intention of selling the 23-year-old Colombian. The addition of a second midfielder will also mean the departure of one midfielder, with Lorenzo Cipioni the most likely candidate.
Meanwhile, Olympiacos is stepping up its efforts to sign Armando González, who is their top target to strengthen the center-forward position. Reports from Mexico indicate that the player’s buyout clause is set at 15 million euros, with the Piraeus club attempting to purchase a large percentage of the player’s rights (rumored to be 80%), as he is eager to continue his career in Europe. The player’s agent is already in Athens, and today is a decisive day, as Olympiacos wants to bring the deal to a successful conclusion.
