The European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, stresses in remarks to *Die Welt* published in today’s edition of the German conservative newspaper that she is preparing to propose expanding by another third the list of Russian entities subject tosanctions due to the war in Ukraine.
“For this fall, I am proposing the most ambitious sanctions list since the start of the war. Once adopted, these measures will immediately increase the total number of Russian entities subject to sanctions by one-third,” says the 49-year-old former prime minister of Estonia in today’s edition of *Die Welt*.
Since the Russian armed forces invaded Ukrainian territory in February 2022 “EU sanctions have already cost Russia dearly, depriving its war machine of more than one trillion euros,” the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission further emphasized.
Since the outbreak of the war, the EU has adopted 21 rounds of sanctions against Russia.
The list of individuals and entities subject to these sanctions currently includes nearly 3,000 names, according to the European Commission.
