The Forestry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and the Environment announces that today, Monday, August 17, 2026, at 7:00 a.m., a fire broke out within the community of Oikos Marathasas.
The fire was immediately brought under control thanks to the timely intervention of a local resident, who used the community’s fire safety system (fire station) and personnel from the Forestry Department, who responded with one fire truck after the fire had burned a small area of low wild vegetation
The fire was caused by birds coming into contact with exposed wires in the power distribution network.
