The President of the Cyprus Consumer Association, Marios Drousiotis, as requested by Marios Drousiotis, President of the Cyprus Consumers’ Association. This is because he has identified strong indications that “something is not right” with the successive price hikes being imposed, at a time when international oil prices are falling.
Speaking on the “Alpha Summer” program, he cited the example of a company that imposed price hikes twice within a week, even though it is well known that companies receive shipments every fifteen days.
“We’re wondering why, and someone needs to answer us. We’ve also identified something that should set off not just a warning bell, but a full-blown alarm. As of March 1, the price of Brent crude was $71 per barrel. On July 16, when we saw price cuts, it was $78 per barrel. And we ask: by what logic would a $7-per-barrel increase lead to price hikes of 28 cents for gasoline, 39 cents for diesel, and 40 cents for heating oil?”
