In a statement issued today, the Forestry Department calls on hunters to exercise special caution during their outings in rural and forested areas, marking the start of the hunting season (partridge hunting) on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
As noted, hunters are urged to avoid any action or activity that could cause a fire, and smokers among the hunters must exercise particular caution; who must not discard cigarette butts in the areas where they are hunting but, after extinguishing them, must place them in a safe location and not discard them in the environment.
Please be reminded that lighting fires in forest and rural areas is strictly prohibited, as this constitutes a criminal offense, while lighting fires is permitted only in specially designated areas within the Forestry Department’s recreational sites and exclusively for cooking.
It is also emphasized that discarding empty cartridges in the environment constitutes a serious form of pollution and is prohibited by the “Law on the Protection and Management of Wild Birds and Game,” therefore, hunters are urged to collect and dispose of empty cartridges, thereby contributing to the protection of the natural environment.
Anyone who notices smoke or a fire in or near the forests is urged to immediately call 1407 (Forestry Department) or 112 (Fire Department), the announcement concludes.
