The Department of Public Works has issued a call for bids for the installation and operation of smart traffic lights at 15 traffic-light-controlled intersections in Nicosia and Limassol.
According to an announcement by the Department, the tender for the implementation of the project “Supply, Installation, and Operation of Vehicle-Actuated Signal (VA) Systems at Signal-Controlled Junctions in Nicosia and Limassol” was announced on August 17, with a deadline for submitting bids set for September 18, 2026.
The project involves the supply, installation, programming, and operation of traffic signal systems activated by traffic (Vehicle-Actuated Signal – VA), using Above-Ground Detectors (AGD) at fifteen (15) traffic-controlled intersections in Nicosia and Limassol.
Specifically, as stated by the Department, the project’s objectives are:
- The implementation of “adaptive mode” traffic signal control at seven (7) intersections in Nicosia and eight (8) intersections in Limassol, through the installation and integration of above-ground detectors (AGD).
- Optimization of traffic signal operation through real-time vehicle detection and dynamic adjustment of signal timing.
- Reducing vehicle delays, queue lengths, and total travel time at selected intersections and along the corresponding road corridors.
- Improvement of traffic flow efficiency and intersection operation under varying traffic demand conditions.
- Enhancing road safety and operational reliability at traffic-light-controlled intersections.
- To provide a scalable and easily maintainable detection and control system compatible with the existing traffic signal infrastructure.
The tender will be conducted through an open procedure, and the award criterion has been set as the most economically advantageous bid based on price.
The project implementation period is three (3) months. The detectors will be covered by a manufacturer’s warranty valid for at least twenty-four (24) months. Work is scheduled to begin in early October 2026.
The Project is funded by national resources. The estimated cost of the Project is €41,900.00, excluding Value-Added Tax (VAT).
This is a Public Procurement Contract with Tender No. PS/14/2026/G(O). All economic operators that meet the requirements specified in the tender documents are eligible to participate.
