The big “bang” of the summer is complete! Rodri is now officially a Barcelona player, having successfully passed the necessary medical exams and signed a contract with the "Blaugrana" through June 2030.
The Spanish midfielder has thus taken the big step of returning to his homeland, leaving Manchester City after seven highly successful seasons. The agreement between the two clubs stipulates a fixed fee of 60 million euros, while including bonuses, the total value of the transfer could reach approximately 76.5 million euros.
Rodri, who had clearly expressed his desire to wear the Barcelona jersey, did not hide his excitement about this new chapter in his career. “I’m very, very happy. It’s a dream,” was his characteristic message upon his arrival in Barcelona.
The transfer is one of Barcelona’s most significant moves in recent years. The 30-year-old international midfielder returns to LaLiga as one of the world’s top midfielders, having won everything with Manchester City and been named Ballon d’Or winner in 2024.
At Camp Nou, Rodri is expected to be the cornerstone of the midfield, bringing quality, control, balance, and a wealth of experience. At the same time, he will once again be playing alongside several of his teammates from the Spanish national team, a fact that made the prospect of his move to Barcelona even more appealing.
The deal took several days of negotiations, with Barcelona submitting successive offers until it secured a “yes” from City. Ultimately, the player’s own desire to continue his career in Catalonia played a decisive role.
