An off-duty police officer managed to subdue a fugitive who had escaped from the hospital where he was being treated in Heraklion, Crete.
However, the officer from the First Police Precinct, in his attempt to subdue the Dutch national, who was wanted by the authorities, was injured as the fugitive put up fierce resistance.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon (August 18) at the mouth of the Almyros River, in the Municipality of Malevizi, where the police officer was in the area to go swimming.
When he spotted the man, he realized it was the individual they had been searching for over the past few hours.
According to ekriti.gr, he rushed to subdue him and simultaneously notified his colleagues, requesting backup.
During the struggle, the Dutchman reportedly put up fierce resistance, resulting in the officer being injured; according to reports, his injury is expected to keep him out of duty for the foreseeable future.
Police officers then rushed to the scene and eventually managed to subdue and arrest the Dutchman.
