Three-day refereeing seminar ahead of the new soccer season

The three-day Category A Referee Seminar, organized by the Cyprus Football Association (CFA), began today (September 19) in Nicosia, the three-day Category A Refereeing Seminar organized by the Cyprus Football Association (CFA) as part of preparations for the 2026–2027 soccer season.

The seminar will conclude next Friday, August 21, and is an important part of the referees’ preparation before the start of official matches.

The opening of the seminar was marked by welcoming remarks from the President of the Cyprus Football Association, Haris Loizidis, and the President of the Referees’ Committee, Antonio Damato, who addressed the participants ahead of the new season.

The seminar began in the presence of the CFF Secretary General and Chairman of the Refereeing Committee of the Executive Committee, Phoebus Vakis, the Federation’s Deputy General Director, Andreas Moria, and the Director of the Refereeing Department, Savvas Konstantinou.

Participants in the seminar include International Referees and Assistant Referees, Category A Referees and Assistant Referees, International Women Referees and Assistant Referees, Category A refereeing observers, as well as VAR and AVAR Specialists.

During the course, participants will attend a series of theoretical and practical training modules, with an emphasis on the Laws of the Game, the consistent application of refereeing decisions, the analysis of match situations, as well as issues related to the use of VAR and general preparation for the demands of the new season.

The FIFA Fitness Test took place beforehand

The seminar was preceded, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, by the FIFA Fitness Test.

The athletic tests were attended by international referees and assistant referees, as well as First Division referees and assistant referees, who underwent the required physical fitness tests, in accordance with FIFA’s requirements and specifications, under the supervision of the CFF’s physical trainers.

The FIFA Fitness Test and the three-day seminar are part of the CFF Referees’ Committee’s overall plan to ensure the best possible competitive, physical, and educational preparation of our referees ahead of the new season.
