Rodri explained why he chose to sign with Barcelona and continue his career there.
In his first comments after signing with the Catalans, the Spanish star emphasized that whatever decisions he makes are always tied to a goal.
“Barça is a truly great club, a global benchmark for its vision of soccer and the values it represents,” he said, adding:
“I had other offers, but Barça was my first choice, and I made that clear to Laporta. The first thing was to realize that my time with my team (ed. note: Manchester City) had come to an end and I had to find a way forward. It took me a little while to accept that. It’s the most special club I’ve ever been a part of.
I studied and analyzed my options. There were some very big clubs that were interested. Together with my family and close friends, we chose what we believe is the best decision. My decisions are always tied to a sporting goal.
Barça has grown tremendously in recent years. The club has won two consecutive La Liga titles—which is very difficult—and came within a hair’s breadth of winning the Champions League. And you can’t just look at the present. There’s great potential. The midfield is impressive. We have very talented players in every position. I want to instill in the team this desire to keep improving,” he noted.
