One year, and that's it.
Having returned with great fanfare in the summer of 2025 after a two-year absence, Paul Pogba is leaving Monaco.
The 2018 World Cup winner, who initially had a contract with the Principality club through 2027, will not see his contract run its full term.
In one season, the former Manchester United and Juventus player appeared in just 6 matches (115 minutes, including 1 start).
“Thank you, Paul! The Principality club and the French international midfielder jointly announce the end of their partnership, which began in the summer of 2025,” Monaco stated in a press release.
“Having jointly determined that the initial objectives set had been only partially achieved, Monaco and Paul Pogba have decided, ahead of the first official match of the new season, to terminate the contract that bound them until June 2027. The club expresses its gratitude to the 2018 World Cup champion for his trust, as well as for the exceptional professionalism he demonstrated throughout his time at Monaco.”
What does the future hold for him?
For his part, the player wanted to thank the club for giving him the opportunity to return to action after the difficult period that had preceded it:
“I want to thank the president and the management, my teammates, all the members of the coaching staff, and all the fans who believed in me. Representing this club and the Principality has been an incredible experience. Monaco is an exceptional club, and although I didn’t play in as many games as I would have liked, I will always be grateful for the opportunity I had to wear its jersey.”
At 33 years old, the question of the next step in Pogba’s career is now inevitably being asked. The French midfielder was once again plagued by a series of injuries last season, yet he remains a target for MLS teams—a league that in recent months has become a destination for many big stars—as well as clubs from Saudi Arabia.
