Our Men’s National Handball Team has departed for Italy to participate in the 20th Mediterranean Games, “Taranto 2026.”
The games will take place from August 21 through September 3 in the Apulia region, centered in Taranto, and will host more than 4,000 athletes from 26 countries. Cyprus will be represented by 145 male and female athletes in 24 sports, including, of course, handball.
A special moment for Cypriot handball will be the opening ceremony, which will take place this coming Friday (August 21), as the captain of our national team, Ioulios Argyrou, will have the special honor of serving as the flag bearer for the Cypriot delegation. Joining him as a flag bearer will be shooting champion Konstantina Nikolaou.
In the tournament, our team will play against Algeria (August 23), Tunisia (August 25) and Greece (August 27) in Group B. They will then play on August 29 and August 31 in classification matches, depending on their final group standing: the top two teams in each group will compete for medals, and the other two for places 5–8.
Group A features host Italy, Egypt, Portugal, and Kosovo. With pride, passion, and the national emblem on their chests, the Men’s National Team is ready to represent Cyprus at this major sporting event.
