Investigations and questioning of members of the Famagusta CID are continuing at an intensive pace regarding the attempted murder of a 33-year-old man that took place shortly before 6:00 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, on Tassos Markou Street in the Kokkines neighborhood of Ayia Napa.
The victim, the brother of a prisoner serving a life sentence at the Central Prison for the high-profile quadruple murder case that took place in June 2016, was shot by the perpetrator or perpetrators a short distance from his home while he was driving.

According to reports, the bullets struck both the victim’s vehicle and a nearby residence. The exact number of bullets has not yet been clarified by the authorities, who believe that the perpetrator or perpetrators fired indiscriminately at the 33-year-old.
Meanwhile, the police investigation has expanded to a rural area in the community of Avgorou, where the vehicle used in the attempted murder was found burning. So far, it has been determined that the vehicle is bearing license plates from another vehicle, and it cannot be ruled out that it was stolen.
Two fire trucks were called to the scene to extinguish the fire, and the vehicle was completely destroyed by the flames.
Authorities, who have already collected and are closely examining footage from closed-circuit surveillance cameras installed at the scene of the attempted murder, do not rule out the possibility that the criminal act was intended as a “message” to the victim’s brother. He, however, has never been of interest to the police in connection with any case, while the investigation will also extend to the Central Prison.

Andreas Konstantinou, Head of the Famagusta Traffic Police, stated that the vehicle located in Avgorou is a Volvo. It was determined that two cases of vehicle theft involving this specific make had been reported to the Larnaca CID in recent days, and investigators believe this is one of those vehicles.
The investigation is focused on locating evidence that may lead to the perpetrators. They will also review closed-circuit surveillance footage in an effort to track the perpetrators’ movements, as well as gather statements from local residents.
