He passed away on Friday, August 21, 4-year-old Marios, who had been hospitalized for several weeks at Makarios Hospital, fighting for his life following serious complications caused by viral meningitis.
His condition had deteriorated significantly, as the child developed cerebral edema and was subsequently declared brain dead. He remained in the Intensive Care Unit for weeks, with his family constantly by his side.

The ordeal of 4-year-old Marios began in early July, when he contracted viral meningitis. His condition deteriorated severely, leading to serious complications and the need for prolonged hospitalization in the ICU.
He was eventually declared brain dead, and the child’s family filed complaints alleging possible delays, omissions, and medical errors, demanding a full investigation into the circumstances of the case and that those responsible be held accountable, should any be identified.
On August 10, relatives and members of the public held a protest outside Limassol General Hospital, demanding answers and a full investigation into the allegations.

The Municipality of Kourion announced his death in a statement, canceling a musical event that had been scheduled for Friday.
“The Municipality of Kourion, in consultation with the Municipal District of Trachoni, announces the cancellation of the musical event scheduled for today, August 21, 2026, as a Trachoni, as a small gesture of respect and solidarity toward the family that is grieving the loss of their child to meningitis.
