The Investigative Units for Arson Crimes (A.K.A.E.E.) of the Fire Department’s Special Investigative Unit in response to a fire caused by negligence that broke out today, August 22, 2026, in the Agios Georgios Xylokastro area.
According to reports, a 58-year-old Greek national, the owner of a solar farm, was arrested for causing the fire, which broke out around 9:00 a.m. following a short circuit in the facility’s wiring. The short circuit caused sparks, resulting in a fire that spread to dry grass in the open area of the solar farm.
Following an investigation by the relevant investigative units of the Fire Department, the 58-year-old man was arrested by officers of the Corinthian Regional Police Directorate (A.K.A.E.E.) under the procedure for arrest in the act for negligent arson.
The Arson Crimes Division (D.A.E.E.) and the investigative units of the Fire Department remain on high operational alert, conducting intensive inspections and taking immediate action to hold those responsible accountable whenever violations are detected.
