AEK got off to a perfect start in its title defense with a resounding 4-0 victory over Heraklis in the league opener. One of the highlights of the match was the promising official debut of Milan Vitalis.
The Hungarian midfielder, who had played just one half in the friendly against Athens Kallithea up to that point, put in a very good performance. Defensively, he did a good job, leading “Enosis” in duels won (9/14), with one steal and four ball recoveries, while also contributing significantly to the team’s offensive play. He had an impressive passing accuracy (72/76) and was equally precise on offensive passes (19/21), and he recorded three key passes and two shots on goal, one of which hit the crossbar after a save by Athanasiadis. It will certainly take him some time to adapt to the team’s tactics and get to know his teammates’ playing styles, especially those of the midfielders, but the early signs are extremely encouraging.

Moreover, Babis Lykoiannis’s fitness tests showed that he is in very good physical condition, even though he did not participate in the team’s preseason training. The 33-year-old left back performed very well in his training sessions, and everything indicates that it won’t be long before he joins the “Enosis” squad, perhaps even in next Sunday’s match against Kifissia at Leoforos, as by then Stavros Pilios will have played in all four of the team’s first official matches.
