Real Madrid snatched a 1-2 victory at Espanyol’s home stadium with a goal in the 90th minute in their LaLiga opener, but the match was quite intense.
The Catalans are complaining that Vinícius wasn’t sent off for “diving,” and they even posted on the team’s social media: “… how many dives do you have to make to get a second yellow card? I’m asking for a friend.”
After the match, Thibaut Courtois didn’t leave Espanyol’s post unanswered. “I’d like to see all the tweets from the teams that play against us when they play against other teams,” said the Belgian goalkeeper, adding: “Calatrava should have been sent off earlier. You have to look in the mirror first and see how your own players are performing in the match. All the forwards are diving. It’s very easy to focus only on what others are doing.”
He was also asked to comment on Rodri’s decision to choose Barcelona over his team. “If he didn’t want to be with us, what can I say? I feel sorry for him,” he emphasized.
