Scandinavian "bloc" against Infantino: "We have lost our trust"

In a head-on collision
ALPHANEWSLIVE

The federations of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and the Faroe Islands joined forces at a meeting held in Helsinki, openly expressing their disagreement with the way FIFA is currently run.

In a joint statement, the six federations sided with UEFA, the AFC, and CONCACAF, which have already strongly criticized Infantino and called for his resignation as FIFA president.

At the center of the dispute is, among other things, the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal, which involved the possibility of selling stakes in FIFA tournaments—including the World Cup—to investment funds. This proposal sparked significant backlash and was ultimately withdrawn.

The Scandinavian federations are calling for an independent external investigation into the circumstances surrounding the proposal, as well as a comprehensive assessment of FIFA’s governance framework.

As they argue, independence, transparency, and accountability—as well as the necessary checks and balances in the decision-making process—must be ensured in practice.

At the same time, they are asking FIFA for clear and binding guarantees that there will never again be any private ownership of the federation’s tournaments or governance.

This move comes just a few days after the Danish Football Association’s decision to seek a credible candidate who could run for the FIFA presidencyagainst Infantino in the 2027 elections.

The Swiss official, who is seeking a fourth term through 2031, now faces mounting pressure from major confederations and national federations.

At the same time, a debate has even begun within the global soccer community regarding the possibility of a vote on a motion of no confidence against the FIFA president, a fact that demonstrates the magnitude of the crisis that has unfolded.

Infantino, however, continues his meetings with Caribbean officials, having traveled to the Dominican Republic this weekend for meetings with the Caribbean Football Union.
