Right from the start, Barcelona showed that it has no intention of wasting any time!
The Catalans kicked off the new season with a 5-0 rout at Elche, showing early on a side that holds promise for the rest of the season. Just like their new signings.

Elche tried to make things difficult for the visitors in the opening minutes, pressing high up the field and attempting to disrupt their build-up play. Barcelona, however, adapted very quickly and needed only a short time to find solutions.
In the 13th minute, Rafinha won a penalty, and a minute later he stepped up to take it, opening the scoring. From that point on, Hansi Flick’s team began to find even more space and take complete control of the pace of the game.
Shortly before halftime, the second goal came. In the 48th minute, Adeyemi linked up brilliantly with Yamal and Raphinha and, with a cool finish, made it 2-0 in his official debut for Barcelona.
In the second half, Elche tried to mount a comeback, but Barcelona didn’t let them back into the game. And when they found another opportunity, they were ruthless. In the 67th minute, Rafinha scored his second goal of the match, following an excellent assist from Gordon, while four minutes later, Fermín made it 4-0, again off an assist from Gordon.
Fermin put the icing on the cake with his second goal of the match. Overall for the champions, Rafinha and Fermin each scored two goals, Adeyemi scored one, and Gordon dished out two assists. The only downside of the evening was Gavi’s injury, which forced him to leave the game in the first half.
