"Prime Minister" Unal Ustel, in reference to Cyprus’s letter to the United Nations, in which it denounced the agreement between Turkey and the so-called “state” on the construction of a natural gas pipeline as illegal.
As reported in the occupied territories, in a written statement, Mr. Ustel described a “major contradiction” in the fact that the Greek Cypriot side—while, as he claims, ignoring the will of the Turkish Cypriots for years—is signing “unilateral” agreements on many issues concerning the island as a whole and its future, including energy, they oppose a move made between the pseudo-state and Turkey.
“It is impossible for us to accept such a notion. The TRNC makes decisions regarding its own future, development, and energy security,” he continues, referring to the pseudo-state.
Mr. Oustel notes that the Republic of Cyprus’s letter to the UN states that the natural gas pipeline will create a permanent and strategic link between Turkey and the occupied territories. “That is exactly what bothers them. It bothers them that ties between the motherland, Turkey, and the TRNC are being strengthened, the enhancement of our country’s energy security, and the assertion of the Turkish Cypriot people’s rights in the Eastern Mediterranean,” he argued.
