Kalia Antoniou was… a real speed demon in the 100-meter freestyle! With a time of 54.90, she not only won her heat but also posted the fastest time among all 21 swimmers in the preliminaries, triumphantly securing her spot in tonight’s final! (7:50 p.m. Cyprus time)
In fact, Kalia was a full second faster than the second-place finisher in the preliminaries, Italy’s Matilde Biagiotti!
Panagiotis Panareto also had a very strong performance in the 50-meter breaststroke. With a time of 28.61, he finished in 9th place, falling just 9 hundredths of a second short of qualifying for the final.
In the women’s 50-meter breaststroke, Maria Erokina, with a time of 32.62, also finished in 9th place and is the first alternate for tonight’s final.
In the men’s 100-meter freestyle, Andrew Lagoudis finished 16th with a time of 51.77, while Nikolas Antoniou took 17th place with 51.84, also putting in a commendable effort.
And now… all roads lead to tonight’s final!
Kalia Antoniou returns to the pool with one big goal: to defend the gold medal she won in the 100-meter freestyle freestyle four years ago at the Mediterranean Games in Oran.
