The pseudo-state is moving forward with the operation of two systems, one for “immigration” and the other for “electronic visas,” with “Prime Minister” Ünal Ustel stating that the goal is to “combat irregular immigration” and “protect public order and security.” In the first phase, citizens of Syria, Nigeria, and Armenia will be included in the “electronic visa” system, he added.
According to Turkish Cypriot media, Mr. Oustel said that the pseudo-state must know who is coming, for what purpose, when, and under what status. “Everyone entering the country must be registered,” he said. He added that screening would not begin only at “border crossings,” but that the necessary security checks could be carried out before the individual’s arrival in the occupied territories.
He explained that, in the first phase, citizens of Syria, Nigeria, and Armenia will be included in the “electronic visa” system and the current process for applying for “consular visas” for these countries will be abolished. He said that applications will undergo a preliminary review by the “immigration department,” and opinions will be sought from the “police” and the relevant authorities depending on the purpose of the visit, thereby ensuring that security and eligibility checks will begin before the individual’s arrival in the pseudo-state.
He also stated that a new and more tightly controlled era will begin in the system for foreign students and “universities” will be required to submit prospective students’ information and documents electronically to the “immigration department,” which will conduct an assessment, taking into account the opinion of the “police.”
If a positive decision is made, he added, the student may enter the occupied territories, and Syrians, Nigerian, and Armenian students who are subject to visa requirements can enter by completing the online visa application process.
For students whose entry is approved, he continued, will automatically be assigned a “personal identification number” by the system, and their records—from the time of entry through enrollment and their stay at the “university”—will be maintained on file.
