Another family that was waiting for their loved one to come home is now in mourning.

A fatal turn of events was enough to cut short the life of 30-year-old Giorgos Georgiou from Larnaca.
It was shortly after seven yesterday evening on the road from Kelion – Troulon Road, when—under circumstances currently under investigation—the motorcycle he was riding entered a curve, crossed into oncoming traffic, and collided head-on with a vehicle. The car was carrying the 28-year-old driver, a passenger, and two young children, aged just four and two. The collision was severe.

The 30-year-old man was transported by ambulance to Larnaca Hospital, where, despite the doctors’ heroic efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The passengers in the car were also injured and taken to the hospital. They received first aid and were discharged.

Examinations revealed that he was not wearing a protective helmet at the time of the accident. The driver of the vehicle underwent a breathalyzer and drug test, both of which came back negative.

In light of this latest tragedy, the police are once again urging drivers to be especially careful, because someone is waiting for us at home.

“A fatal accident is not just a number. As the police, we once again urge all road users to drive responsibly, obey the traffic code, and respect other drivers. We must remember every time we get behind the wheel that someone is waiting for us at home.”
Byron Vyronos – Police Spokesperson

The loss of Georgios has plunged the Larnaca EOA, where he worked, into deep mourning.

“George Georgiou was a worthy and beloved colleague, a young family man who stood out for his integrity, hard work, and dedication. His loss fills the entire family of the Organization with deep sorrow. Our thoughts are with his wife, children, family, and loved ones during these difficult times, to whom we extend our sincere condolences. Farewell, our beloved George.”

As a tribute to the memory of the deceased, the Larnaca EOA has decided, among other things, to cover the funeral expenses and to fly the Organization’s flags at half-mast.

Georgiou is survived by his wife and two children, a seven-year-old boy and an infant.

According to the medical examiner’s report, his death was caused by a severe traumatic brain injury resulting from a traffic accident.

The motorcycle the victim was riding belonged to someone else.

The number of traffic accident fatalities this year stands at 27, with more than half of them being motorcyclists.
