The Cypriot delegation has won its first gold medal at the “Taranto 26” Mediterranean Games, and Kalia Antoniou has secured it in the most spectacular way possible!
Our champion once again climbed to the top step of the podium in the 100-meter freestyle, successfully defending the title she won four years ago in Oran.
In Taranto, the Cypriot flag was raised on the highest flagpole, and the Cypriot national anthem was played for the first time at the Games—a thrilling moment of pride for all of Cyprus.
In the final, Kalia did not enter the pool first and appeared to be trailing in the opening meters. With a stunning effort and a time of 54.60, she finished in first place, leaving Italy’s Chiara Tarantino in second place with a time of 54.67, by a margin of seven hundredths of a second.
A performance that confirmed her dominance in the most emphatic way possible. From Oran to Taranto, Kalia remains at the top! Two competitions, two gold medals, and a title that remains Cypriot!
