A 700-euro fine for… riding a horse while under the influence of alcohol was imposed on a rider in Andros. In fact, for the same offense, 9 points were deducted from his driver’s license.
According to a report by Mega, it all began when a couple complained about the rider’s handling of the horse while he was riding on a road on the island.
Speaking to Mega, he denied the allegation and described how his arrest took place.
“Six police officers came and told me to go to the station. I went to the station, and they held me there all night because that couple had filed a complaint against me for assault. Then they told me, ‘We’re going to give you a breathalyzer test.’ They issued me a 700-euro fine and deducted 9 points from my driver’s license,” he noted.
The breathalyzer readings were 0.71 and 0.5
According to the citation he received, the rider’s first breathalyzer reading was 0.71 g/l and the second was 0.5 g/l.
He also points out that when he was tested, he was not on the horse but was holding it next to him. “It may have been a little dangerous, but I was holding the horse very close to me and had it right beside me so we wouldn’t hit anyone,” he pointed out.
