"Organized crime has access to politicians": Pamboridis makes revealing comments on Alpha TV, including about the 2028 presidential election

What he proposes to Anita and Averoff, and on which constitutional amendment he disagrees with Pindarou

“Yes, I will be”: That was the response given by DISY MP Giorgos Pamboridis when asked on the Alpha Kalokairi show whether he was interested in being nominated as the party’s candidate for the 2028 presidential election.

However, he did not hide his opposition to the constitutional amendment proposed by Pindarou, which provides for the selection of the presidential candidate by the members of the Political Bureau, noting that “the party’s current president should have the final say.” Mr. Pamporidis explained why he strongly disagrees with the constitutional amendment, saying that “it is not possible to pit senior party officials against one another before an important national election.”

“If there is another candidate, the party’s collective bodies should have decided whether to put the issue to the rank-and-file. It is evasive to defer this decision to the rank and file, risking the fragmentation of the party’s unity. We were wrong to get involved in this game.”

George Pamporidis, meanwhile, suggested to his rumored rivals—namely, Annita Dimitriou and Averof Neophytou—that they “hold consultations,” so that it becomes clear who has the best chance of winning in the first and second rounds.

“If we can agree among ourselves on who is the party’s most suitable candidate, that would be ideal. If my candidacy does not serve the unity of the party and leads to a loss, then I would step aside. This is a decision that weighs heavily on all of us.”

Mr. Pamporidis also argued that organized crime has infiltrated the country’s political life, claiming that members of organized crime have access to politicians.

“The issue of public safety must be given special attention, and the mechanisms that will shield the country must be strengthened.”

At the same time, he spoke of “abuse of sick leave” in the public sector and accused the executive branch of not daring to take on the civil servants’ unions.

“It’s unacceptable that we can’t meet our needs because half the nurses are on sick leave.”
