There are quite a few players who need time to get going at the start of a season, let alone those who competed in the World Cup this summer and advanced deep into the tournament with their national teams.
One of those who seems to have been affected at the start of the season is Ousmane Dembélé. The French superstar didn’t meet high performance standards in the UEFA Super Cup, in the French Super Cup, or in the league opener—something that didn’t go unnoticed by Luis Enrique.
What was the Spanish coach’s decision? It was something we certainly don’t see from many coaches: he gave Dembélé the entire week off.
As it turned out, Enrique wanted to completely remove his player from the team’s daily routine so that he could rest both physically and mentally. As a result, Dembélé will miss the second-round match against Lille and will return to training in Paris on Monday (August 31).
