Liverpool is very close to finalizing one of the biggest transfers of the summer, having reached a preliminary agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Bradley Barcola.
According to David Ornstein and “The Athletic,” the two clubs agreed overnight on the basic terms of a deal worth a total of approximately 140 million euros. Of that amount, more than 116 million euros are expected to be guaranteed, while the remainder will consist of bonuses and additional terms.
On Liverpool’s side, the negotiations are being handled by sporting director Richard Hughes and Fenway Sports Group chairman Mike Gordon. The final key details of the agreement are being worked out, though the deal has not yet been officially signed.
The deal had entered the final stretch in recent days, when Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain held crucial discussions to clarify the situation. Barkola’s own stance also appears to have played a decisive role, as he has expressed his desire to continue his career on Merseyside.
The 23-year-old French international was, from early on, Liverpool’s primary transfer target to strengthen its attacking line and, in particular, to fill the huge void left bydeparture of Mohamed Salah. The “Reds” had prepared their initial offer as early as late July and are now just a breath away from finalizing the transfer.
Barcola still has two years left on his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, but he had made it clear to the French club’s officials that he does not wish to renew it. Indicative of the situation was the fact that he was left out of the squad for the 2-2 draw with Rennes in the French league opener.
He primarily plays on the left wing, but can play just as comfortably on the right. Last season, he faced stiff competition for a spot in Paris’s starting lineup, mainly from Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué, and toward the end of Paris’s Champions League run, he was used several times as a substitute.
Despite the competition, he made 49 appearances during the 2025–26 season, recording 13 goals and seven assists. In total, since making his first-team debut in the 2021–22 season, he has tallied 39 goals and 37 assists in 152 appearances.
The player, who came up through the Lyon academy, also made a significant impact with the French national team at the 2026 World Cup. He played in all eight of the “Tricolors’” matches in the tournament and scored three goals, further cementing his place among the top forwards of his generation.
The potential completion of the transfer could trigger a domino effect within Liverpool’s current roster. Kodi Hackpo has been repeatedly linked with Tottenham, while Manchester City has also expressed interest in him.
