In a statement, Nea Salamina welcomes Barcelona’s decision to cancel the academy camp in the occupied territories.
The statement: “NEA SALAMINA AMMOCHOSTOS welcomes the reports published regarding the cancellation of FC Barcelona’s planned soccer camp in occupied Nicosia.
Our Club, through its President, Paris Andreou, sent an official letter to FC Barcelona, expressing its strong opposition both to this specific event and to the use of the name “Northern Cyprus” on the Barça Academy’s official website.
This development is a step toward fulfilling the request we made. We acknowledge the efforts of the Cyprus Football Association, the Republic of Cyprus, and all those who acted toward the same goal.
For NEA SALAMINA AMMOCHOSTOS, this action stems from our very identity. As a refugee club that remains far from its home base, we have a responsibility to defend historical truth and to oppose actions that portray the occupation as the norm.
We believe in sports that unite people, with respect for peace, human rights, and international law. Guided by these principles, we will continue to take action, keeping the voice of Famagusta alive.”
