Police on “Sandy” Deployment: Allegations Will Be Decided in Court

What is the status of the investigation into the complaint regarding the breach of personal data at “Mafia State”?

The court will rule on the claims and arguments of the woman who goes by the pseudonym “Santi,” as Police Spokesperson Byron Vyronos told CNA, following her second written statement published today on the Cyprus Times website, which has brought the high-profile case back into the spotlight.

In response to a question from KYPE regarding the police’s stance on the positions expressed by “Santi” through the Cyprus Times, Mr. Vyronos stated that her allegations will be assessed during the trial, which has already been scheduled.

“We have nothing further to say as the Police,” said Mr. Vyronos, noting that the police cannot comment on anyone’s statements once the case is before the court.

The woman behind the pseudonym “Santi,” through her two written submissions to the Cyprus Times, is attempting to present her own version of her involvement in the case and to respond, among other things, the claim that the criminal proceedings against her and journalist Makarios Drousiotis constitute an attempt to stifle journalistic investigation.

In her initial statement, she called, among other things, for the available data from Mr. Drousiotis’s device and accounts to be examined in a lawful and independent technical manner, so that, as she states, to determine the path of specific messages.

In his own post yesterday, Mr. Drousiotis noted, among other things, that the examination of devices and other digital material is underway thanks to financial support from citizens, adding that “the evidence has already begun to speak for itself and refutes the police’s scenario and her own account that she fabricated the messages herself and that their content is a product of her imagination.”

In her second statement today, “Santi” maintains that she wrote messages related to the case, but that these did not correspond to actual conversations or events. At the same time, she denies responsibility for information which, she says, she did not write, did not say, and did not convey.

At the same time, the police are also investigating a criminal case following a complaint by a specific individual regarding a possible violation of personal data in his book “State Mafia.”

In response to a question from CNA regarding the progress of this investigation, Police Spokesperson Byron Vyronos stated that the investigation is ongoing.

“We are taking statements to determine whether any criminal offenses have been committed by Makarios Drousiotis, but it is still unknown when it will be completed, as in such cases, each statement may reveal new evidence and testimonies,” said Mr. Vyronos.

The police, therefore, are continuing their investigation into this second case, with no completion date set as of yet.
