Makarios Drousiotis appeared at the TAE Headquarters in connection with the complaint filed against him regarding a violation of personal data in the book *State Mafia*.
“I was questioned by the KYP. I was humiliated!” the author and journalist wrote in a post, referring to “the use of national security as a weapon against journalism by the ‘ruling party.’”
“Back at the Central Criminal Investigation Division headquarters for an interrogation, this time regarding an alleged violation of the CYPA laws and data protection laws. To my knowledge, this appears to be the first case in which the CYP Law has been used for a criminal investigation of a journalist. Congratulations to President Christodoulides!” he notes.
He adds, among other things, “I was asked, in all seriousness, which other individuals were aware of the book’s content prior to its publication, how the information I’ve recorded came to my attention, what the roles of the book’s editor and designer were, and to comment on the covers of the two editions of *State Mafia*. I was also asked whether I had received “any permission from a competent authority” to publish the books! I was left speechless by the response, and despite my clear invocation of my right to remain silent, I was asked twice to explain why I was staying silent! I was truly ashamed of my country.”
At the same time, he makes pointed remarks about the timing of the filing of this specific complaint.
“The timing of the filing of this specific complaint by a CIB official, just 6 days (!) after the Anti-Corruption Authority’s announcement regarding the ‘State Mafia’ is by no means coincidental. This is the third criminal investigation against me within a month, and it appears a fourth is in the works…”
At the same time, he lashes out at Nikos Anastasiadis, expressing the view that the former President of the Republic is behind his “persecution” as an act of revenge against the “Mafia State”
“In a recent statement, former President Nikos Anastasiades criticizes the Anti-Corruption Authority for not seeking my prosecution, because I intentionally and knowingly provided false or misleading information! There is no longer any doubt that Anastasiades is behind the persecution of me and that this is his revenge on the “State Mafia.” Anastasiades left the presidency and left behind what he himself calls the “ruling faction,” which protects him and persecutes those who expose his corruption.”
