The “Nestor” plan was implemented following the truck rollover that occurred this afternoon on the highway, according to the Ministry of Justice. The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m., and traffic began to resume around 8:20 p.m.
“The immediate response and coordinated mobilization of all involved agencies and private entities were crucial for the effective management of today’s serious traffic accident involving aa truck and a private vehicle,” states the Ministry, which adds that the incident effectively constituted “a practical application of the philosophy and basic principles of the NESTOR Plan, which was drawn up following the previous serious incident, during which the highway remained closed for approximately seven hours.”

Managing today’s situation was particularly challenging, as noted, since the truck that overturned was carrying gravel and towing a second articulated trailer, a fact that made moving it more difficult and complex.
“Immediately after the accident, all relevant agencies were mobilized. Under the coordination of the Traffic Police and the Pera Chorio Police Station, the necessary measures were taken to manage the incident and safely restore traffic.”
As the Ministry adds, the cargo that had spilled onto the roadway was removed with the assistance of a private contractor, while the vehicles involved were towed away with the help of private tow trucks. At the same time, the police directed and rerouted traffic via alternate routes.

“Thanks to the immediate response, the coordination of all parties involved, and the cooperation between the relevant agencies and private entities, the operation was completed safely, without causing significant inconvenience to drivers.”
Today’s response highlighted the importance of preparedness, clear coordination, and immediate cooperation between the public and private sectors in effectively addressing even highly complex incidents on the road network, the statement adds.
The Minister of Justice and Public Order congratulates the Police, the agencies involved, and the officials who coordinated and managed the incident, as well as the private repair crews and crane operators for their immediate response and contribution to the smooth completion of the operation.
“This is the purpose of the NESTOR Plan. The immediate mobilization of all parties involved, effective coordination, and the safe restoration of traffic, with the least possible inconvenience to citizens.”
