The Cyprus national team celebrated a great victory, defeating Austria 77-72 at the “Spyros Kyprianou” Stadium in Limassol, as part of the first game of the second round of the FIBA EuroBasket 2029 preliminary qualifiers.
Our national team put on a very strong performance and secured an important result against a tough opponent. With this victory, Cyprus significantly improves its chances of advancing in the tournament.
The standout player for our national team was Filippos Tsigas, who finished the game with 25 points, shooting 9-for-16 from the field. Stefanos Tsigas also had a very strong performance with 15 points and 6-for-14 shooting from the field, while Simon Michael also stood out, adding 8 points and dishing out 8 assists.
Group play will continue on Sunday, August 30, when Austria hosts Skopje. Cyprus will return to competitive action on November 26, facing Skopje on the road.
