The U.S. defeated Chile 89-71 in Santiago as part of the second round of World Cup qualifiers.
The Americans took an early 22-8 lead and maintained control until the end, despite the home team’s efforts to close the gap. Cole Swider was the leading scorer with 19 points, while Orlando Robinson added 15. Mike James had 11 points and 7 assists.
In the other games, the Dominican Republic pulled off an important road win over Brazil, 94-90, with Olympiacos’s Yan Montero putting on an impressive performance with 30 points. Mexico easily defeated Colombia 112-86.
In the other group, Argentina defeated Puerto Rico 89-75, with Gabi Deck scoring 23 points. Facundo Campazzo also put on an outstanding performance with 13 points, 10 assists, and 5 steals.
The Bahamas defeated Uruguay on the road 103-94, led by Buddy Hield with 28 points, while Canada defeated Panama 86-66.
The top three teams in each group qualify for the World Cup, while the final spot from the Americas zone will go to the best fourth-place team across both groups.
