Countdown to the Tseri Firing Range. This was revealed by Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas during an interview on state radio, though he did not specify the exact date.
Regarding the Kalo Chorio Firing Range, Mr. Palmas pointed out that although the main demand of local residents is to relocate the firing range from that specific site, this is currently NOT possible.
When asked to comment on the discovery of two projectiles at the Kalo Chorio Firing Range during firefighting operations in Agia Anna, the Minister said that it is natural for citizens to express some concern. He pointed out, however, that the reactions were somewhat exaggerated, in the sense that it is not unusual for unexploded ordnance to be found at firing ranges. He emphasized that the goal is to eliminate such situations and ensure that munitions are destroyed after every exercise.
He also noted that entry into firing ranges is prohibited, recalling that a decision had been made to station a guard on a 24-hour basis in the area of the Kalo Chorio Firing Range.
When asked when a decision would be made regarding the new deputy commander of the National Guard, he said that the matter would be brought before the Council of Ministers tomorrow.
He noted that the Cabinet will decide either to retain the current deputy commander, Lieutenant General Neophytos Pachoulides, or select one of the two Greek Cypriot Major Generals, Haris Georgiou and Andreas Charalambous.
