Paphos is in the group stage of a European competition for the third time in its history and the second time in the Conference League, following its victory over Dinamo City.
The club’s General Manager, Haris Theocharous, spoke to “Super Sport 104.0” about this success and also discussed everything related to the Paphos team.
In detail
On qualifying: “We’d like to extend our congratulations to Omonia as well; it’s very important for us to be in the league phase for the third consecutive time. It’s not a given, as we sometimes think in Cyprus. We’ve seen which teams were eliminated or started in the Champions League and ended up in the Conference League. The Conference League is no small matter. From being in Pot 6 in our first year, we’re now in Pot 2. It shows how much we’ve grown.”
On transfers: “I believe we have a very good and balanced roster. If we make any additions, it will be to make the team better. We won’t make signings just for the sake of it. It’s also an opportunity for the team to have a more balanced locker room so the players can compete and we can manage the rotation.”
On the betting odds: “Last year, too, they had us as the clear favorites, but I don’t believe in that. It was the same with Dinamo—they said we’d have an easy afternoon.”
On the comments made by Dynamo’s coach: “I won’t comment on anything their coach said. We saw a lot of gestures, and they were provocative.”
On the season opener against Karmiotissa: “It’ll be a tough game; we saw last year that the gap between the teams has narrowed.”
