A total of 97,096 commercial flights were recorded in 2025 at the international airports of Larnaca and Paphos, according to Eurostat data published on Friday.
Based on the sum of Eurostat’s monthly data, Larnaca Airport recorded 73,226 commercial flights during 2025, while the corresponding figure for Paphos Airport was 23,870.
The highest traffic at both Cypriot airports was recorded in August, when Larnaca handled 8,619 commercial flights and Paphos 2,961, bringing the total for both airports to 11,580.
Traffic was also high in July, with 8,163 flights in Larnaca and 2,745 in Paphos, while in September, 7,727 and 2,713 flights were recorded, respectively.
In contrast, the lowest total number of flights at the two Cypriot airports was recorded in February, with 3,387 flights in Larnaca and 905 in Paphos.
Nearly 7 million commercial flights in the EU
According to Eurostat, at the European Union level, a total of 6.9 million commercial flights were recorded in 2025, a 3.8% increase compared to the 6.7 million in 2024.
Eurostat reports that the number of commercial flights has been rising steadily since 2021 and returned to pre-pandemic levels in 2025. In 2019, approximately 7 million commercial flights were recorded in the EU.
Non-scheduled commercial flights, which include charter flights and other special flights, accounted for 8.5% of the total number of commercial flights in the EU in 2025.
According to Eurostat, the highest proportions of non-scheduled flights were recorded during the summer months. More specifically, in June, when a total of 648,707 commercial flights took place in the EU, non-scheduled flights accounted for 11.2% of the total. In July, the percentage rose to 12.3% out of a total of 690,855 flights, while in August it stood at 11.4%, with a total of 693,046 flights.
Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport recorded the highest number of commercial flights among EU airports in 2025, with approximately 488,000 scheduled and non-scheduled flights.
It was followed by Paris-Charles de Gaulle with 476,000 flights and Frankfurt Airport with 457,000.
Among the ten EU airports with the highest total number of commercial flights, the highest percentage of non-scheduled flights was recorded at Athens “Eleftherios Venizelos” Airport, at 5.2%. It was followed by Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport at 4.8% and Copenhagen-Kastrup Airport at 4.1%.
