Amorim’s first home game at San Siro ended with smiles for Milan!
The “Rossoneri” were looking for answers against a spirited Venezia in their Serie A Matchday 2 clash, and finally found them in the second half, winning 2-0. From the opening minutes, the home team tried to impose their style of play, with Gonzalo Ramos creating the first chance just 1 minute in, but his finish didn’t trouble Stanković. Musa and Cissé brought intensity to the midfield, but Venezia found ways to threaten, mainly through the quick transitions of Adams and Yeboah.
Milan’s best chance of the first half came in the 55th minute, when Musa found himself in a shooting position after a chaotic sequence in the box, but the ball hit the crossbar. Ramos continued to press for a goal, missing a total of three good chances before halftime, while Venezia had its own big moment with Yeboah, in a play where Pavlović made a save literally on the line.
In the second half, the pace slowed, with Milan trying to control the game and Venezia looking fresher for a while. Amorim shuffled the deck by bringing in Rabiot and Salemakers, and the Belgian immediately changed the game: he came on with energy, distributed the ball, created chances, and in the 69th minute, he launched the counterattack that decided the match. Salemakers ran the length of the field, found Ramos, and the Portuguese player, on his most difficult chance of the game, slotted it in with a left-footed shot to the far post for the 1-0 lead.
Venezia tried to respond, with Adams and Lauberbach looking for openings, but Menian made two crucial saves that preserved the lead. And in the 89th minute came the play that “sealed” the game: Salemakers—once again—played a through ball to Yasar, who found himself one-on-one with Stanković but mishit the shot. Stanković touched the ball with his hand, but it took a strange trajectory and ended up at the feet of Halhal, who was charging back toward the box. A collision was inevitable, and the ball ended up in the net for the final score of 2-0.
