Asteras AKTOR vs. Olympiacos: The “Red-and-Whites” head to Tripoli with the sole goal of making it two wins in a row

A tough “test” for the Piraeus team
ALPHANEWSLIVE

A tough away game for Olympiacos in the second matchday of the Stoiximan Super League!

The “Red-and-Whites” will face off tonight (9:00 p.m.) against Asteras AKTOR in Tripoli, looking to make it two wins in two games after their hard-fought victory over Atromitos in the season opener!

In a match during which they dominated but missed many key scoring opportunities—the biggest being El Kaabi’s missed penalty— it took a goal by Karamo in the 82nd minute to secure a 1-0 victory and kick off this year’s league campaign with three points. In a match that came after their elimination by Nijmegen and the events that followed the Marinakis-Medilbar meeting, the Piraeus side secured an important victory and are now looking to make it two wins in a row tonight! The Basque coach will be without Rodinei, who was sent off in the final minutes of the match against Atromitos, and he will be the only Red-and-White player missing. Of course, Pedersen is also out, as announced yesterday, while it’s likely that González will make his debut for the Red-and-Whites. “There’s no such thing as an easy game, and certainly not in Tripoli. We need to stay focused, and each of us has to give our best so that we can be a strong, effective team and prove on the field that we’re better than them. Otherwise, it’s very difficult to win,” said José Luis Medilibar, among other things, ahead of tonight’s match.

Olympiacos’ roster: Ortega, Popovic, Stournaras, Saliakas, Smailović, Pirolá, Carmo, Retsos, Bruno, Tiknizian, Fortounis, Sa, Martins, García, Sipioni, Froiler, Chikino, Ese, Roca, Mouzakitis, El Kaabi, Zota Silva, Gonzalez, and Clayton.

On the other hand, Asteras is playing its first home game of the season against what is sure to be a tough opponent. They have played two official matches so far this season, losing both— 2-0 to Levadiakos in the qualifying round of the Superbet Greek Cup and 3-1 to Panetolikos in Agrinio in the league opener. They fell behind as early as the 6th minute, pulled one back to make it 2-1 in the 78th minute, but their joy was short-lived, as they conceded a third goal just two minutes later.

On the field, Giorgos Antonopoulos’s only absence is that of Deligiannidis, who has been sidelined for some time due to injury, while Jordan Silva has served his suspension and is available.

The Asteras AKTOR roster: Papadopoulos, Hatzimmanuel, Kakadiaris, Chrysopoulos, Brorson, Tereziou, Kotsiras, Mendes, Silva, Laskaris, Bouzoukis, Ender, Kourbelis, Riera, Bartolo, Makenda, Ketou, Orothko, Kaltsas, Ricardinho, Papakanellos, Kimbioka, Peres.

Asteras and Olympiacos faced off three times last season, having also met in the Cup, with the “Red-and-Whites” winning all three matches, winning 2-0 at Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium and 2-1 and 3-0 in Tripoli.

Probable starting lineups:

Asteras AKTOR (Antonopoulos): Papadopoulos, Kotsiras, Silva, Brorsson, Mentes, Kourbelis, Eder, Orosco, Bartolo, Kimbioka, Makenda
