Crime and Punishment for AEK at the Hands of the Unbelievable Kifissia

Enosis's First Lost Points
ALPHANEWSLIVE

The first surprise of this year’s championship has already happened, with AEK drawing 1-1 with Kifisia at Leoforos in the second matchday of the Stoiximan Super League!

Sebastián Leto’s team gave AEK a tough time from the start, got off to a better start and created several chances, capitalizing on the yellow-and-blacks’ numerous mistakes. AEK took some time to find their footing and had their two best moments toward the end of the first half with Jović and Marin.

Kifisia continued to threaten after the break, but in the 63rd minute, the quality of AEK’s players made the difference. Marin made an excellent run, combined with Mayer, and played a through ball to Varga, who beat Ramires and made it 0-1.

The home team, however, did not stop looking for a goal. In the 74th minute, Theodoridis hit the crossbar, while in the 84th minute, Pobo missed yet another huge chance to equalize.

And just when it seemed that AEK would leave Leoforos with the three points, Kifisia found the net on the final play. In the 90+7th minute, Benny found space outside the box, moved forward without facing significant pressure from AEK’s defense, and with a powerful shot, sent the ball into the corner of Strakosa’s net for the final 1-1 draw.

Thus, AEK failed to make it two wins in a row in the Stoiximan Super League and, following their opening-day victory over Heraklis, now has four points.

Now, Marko Nikolić’s team is putting the league behind them and turning their attention to the Superbet Greek Cup. On Wednesday, Enosis travels to Chrysoupoli, where it will face Nestos in its first match of the tournament’s League Phase.

Kifissia (Sebastián Leto): Ramires, Zoliboua, Hugo Souza (82′ Christopoulos), Abanda, Van Eima, Rukounakis, Yagne (75′ Embula), Pombo, Jerson Souza (69′ Benny), Antonise (82′ Apostolakis), and Saghal (69′ Theodoridis).

AEK (Marko Nikolić): Strakosha, Rota, Pilios, Relvas, Mukundi, Marin, Vitalis (69′ Kairinen), Mayer (69′ Mandalos), Koita (29′ Zubkov), Jović, and Varga (82′ Zini).
