There was a strong police presence and activity last night throughout Cyprus, with organized patrols carried out at key locations in urban areas, aimed at preventing serious criminal acts, maintaining public order, and enhancing the public’s sense of security.
As a result of these preventive police operations, seven individuals were arrested for various offenses, including impersonation, assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, public intoxication, causing a disturbance, assaulting a police officer, and others.
As part of these operations, 504 drivers and 194 passengers were stopped and checked overnight. At the same time, 41 premises inspections were conducted to address violations, resulting in 11 complaints.
During the traffic checks that were carried out, 297 citations were issued for various traffic violations, and 12 cases of traffic violations are currently under investigation.
Of the citations issued, 151 were for speeding, and 13 vehicles were impounded as part of police investigations.
A total of 202 breathalyzer tests were conducted, resulting in eight citations, and two cases of driving under the influence of drugs were also identified following preliminary drug tests.
Law enforcement operations aimed at crime prevention and suppression continue daily, with an increased/reinforced police presence, targeted checks, and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing citizens’ sense of security, protecting citizens, and ensuring public order.
