His task tonight will be anything but easy, as he’ll face the red-hot Fils. The 22-year-old tennis player is coming off the biggest success of his career, as, last week he celebrated winning the Cincinnati Open, the first Masters 1000 title of his career!
A victory that catapulted him from No. 24 in the world rankings to No. 11, while Stefanos begins the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season ranked 53rd.
As for the head-to-head history between the two players, Tsitsipas and Fils have faced each other a total of five times, with the Frenchman holding a 4-0 lead, while the fifth match was never played due to the Greek player’s withdrawal because of injury.
The winner of tonight’s match is expected to have a very easy time in the second round of the tournament and on the road to the “Round of 32,” as they will face either South African Lloyd Harris (No. 139) or American Jack Kennedy (No. 386).
