What happens when the body enters a digital system and becomes part of its own disruption?
The Rialto Theater presents LUX_KILL, a new site-specific installation by visual artist and performance artist Suzana Fialas, developed as part of the Theater’s Associate Artist in Residence 2026 program.
From September 4 to 6, the audience is invited to go beneath the stage and discover a cold, raw, and unexpected space within the Theater, where choreography, technology, and architecture converge. Far from the red velvet and the conventional theater experience, LUX_KILL transforms the underground space into an interactive digital environment.
At the center of the installation are three disassembled screens, on which an algorithmic body is projected that reacts to the physical presence of visitors. As the audience enters and moves through the space, their presence overloads the local network, causing real-time visual distortions and disrupting the flow of the image. The viewer, therefore, does not remain a passive observer but becomes an active element of the work.
The installation was developed during Fiala’s artist residency at the Rialto Theater through a process of construction, testing, failure, reconstruction, and experimentation. Working closely with the theater’s technical and production teams, the artist utilized the architecture and infrastructure of the underground space as an integral part of the work.
Fiala’s broader artistic practice explores the relationship between movement, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and the human body. She approaches artificial intelligence as a creative collaborator, examining how algorithms learn from human experience and how their own distortions can reflect the complexity of the world that feeds them. With LUX_KILL, this ongoing exploration takes on a physical and site-specific dimension.
Suzana Fialas is a creator who moves between different artistic media, a creator of performance works, an artificial intelligence artist, and a curator, whose practice lies at the intersection of digital and physical art. She combines choreography, performance, code, and artificial intelligence, with a particular interest in movement as an algorithm.
Her work has been presented internationally at exhibitions, dance and performance events, site-specific festivals, and screen dance programs. The physical performance with artificial intelligence, AiNA, represented Cyprus at the European Contemporary Dance Festival (CCDF) 2024. Her works have also been included in the collection of the Cyprus State Art Gallery and in private digital art collections, and since 2023 she has been represented by FELLOWSHIP AI.
