Nottingham Forest is moving to sign Jacob Murphy from Newcastle, exploring one of the last transfer opportunities before the summer window closes.
The 31-year-old winger has not managed to secure a spot in Newcastle’s starting lineup in the first few Premier League games, having been used as a substitute, while competition on the right side of the attack has increased significantly.
The presence of Anthony Elanga and his very strong start to the season have further limited Murphy’s chances of securing a regular spot in the starting lineup. At the same time, the English soccer player has entered the final year of his contract with Newcastle, a fact that sets the stage for a potential transfer.
Murphy is coming off a season with mixed results. In the 2024–25 season, he was impressively productive, recording a total of 23 goals and assists in 41 appearances; however, he was unable to maintain those numbers last season.
Nottingham Forest is looking to strengthen its midfield, and the experienced winger is a top candidate. Dylan Bakwa’s departure on loan to Lille has left an additional gap on the right flank, which the English club aims to fill before the transfer window closes.
Oliver Glasner’s team has had a mixed start to the new season. Following a loss to Leeds in their Premier League opener and elimination by the same team in the Carabao Cup, their form improved significantly in the away match against Liverpool, where they managed to earn a crucial point at Anfield.
