The “Argentina” chapter has come to a close after 21 full years. Lionel Messi announced that he had decided to retire from the Albiceleste after a two-decade career, during which he etched his name in gold in the history of his country.
The road, however, was not paved with rose petals. Messi experienced lost finals, bitter defeats, and skepticism that had forced him to temporarily retire from the Argentine national team back in 2026 after losing the Copa América.

In the end, though, he never gave up. And the tears of disappointment turned into tears of joy. For the return to the top of the world in 2022, for the Copa Americas added to his trophy case, for the Finalissima, for this entire unforgettable journey.
