Berg Expresses Disappointment and Stance on Transfers – Okkas Praised His Players for Their Effort (VIDEO)

The Aftermath at GSP

Omonia played to a 0-0 draw with Omonia Aradippou at GSP Stadium in the match that concluded the first round of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan.

In a game with plenty of scoring opportunities, neither team managed to find the back of the net, and so they settled for a scoreless draw.

After the match, Henning Berg expressed his disappointment with the result and also addressed transfer rumors, emphasizing the desire to strengthen—not weaken—the roster.

For his part, Giannis Okkas appeared particularly satisfied with the point and congratulated his players on their effort.

Here are their statements in detail:

Henning Berg (Omonia): “We’re disappointed with today’s result. It wasn’t the start we wanted. We need to improve on our performance today. We could have played much better, and today we didn’t. I don’t know the main reasons, but the starting lineup today was good enough to create chances and score. But we didn’t. Even in the second half, we weren’t as aggressive or effective in the attacking third. We need to improve our timing, our pace, and our ability to catch opponents off guard. Today wasn’t one of our better games. We need to improve in these areas to create chances and score goals.”

On the changes to the starting lineup: “Of course, the choice of the starting lineup definitely had an impact. There’s no doubt about that. At the same time, though, these were players who were fresh. As for the attack, we had enough quality players to create more chances than we actually did, but we weren’t able to do so. And as I said, they train together every day. It’s not that they don’t know each other. I think only Thomas, Ljubo, and Loïc Nego weren’t with us last year. So they know how we play, what we want to do, and how we want to play. For whatever reason, though, we weren’t able to put it into practice today. And we definitely need to figure out why. Because if we want to be successful, we have to play much better in the league than we did today.”

On transfers and departures: “I think it’s hard to say much since some things haven’t been finalized yet. Whether it’s players leaving or players coming in, it’s best not to say too much. However, once the procedures are finalized, of course we can discuss whether someone is coming or leaving. We want to improve our roster, not weaken it. Every transfer window is different, and there have been some changes this year. Last year, there weren’t as many. Nevertheless, we have a good team and a good roster as it stands right now. If we can add something to the team, of course we’ll try to do so.”

Yiannis Okkas (Omonia Aradippou): “Here’s to a good soccer season with good health, even though it didn’t start off well. Get well soon to the AEL player—may he stay injury-free. I won’t beat around the bush. One team deserved to win: Omonia Nicosia. We expected them to be strong; despite the changes, they have two starting lineups. We may not have played our best game against last year’s champions, but we earned a point, and that satisfies us. I’d like to congratulate my players on their great effort. Omonia Aradippou is still a work in progress, and we hope to make one or two more signings soon to help us out. We wish Omonia all the best in Europe and the league.”
