Of course, there was also the big… surprise, which came at the end of the matchday when defending champion Omonia “slipped up” and had to settle for a scoreless draw with Omonia Aradippou at the GSP.
As for the newcomers, Omonia 29 May got off to a… strong start, Nea Salamina drew with Olympiakos, while Karmiotissa “bowed” to Pafos’s superiority. Finally, the match that perhaps offered the most excitement was the one between Aris and Apollon, with the two Limassol teams ultimately settling for a 2-2 draw.
The action continues this coming Friday (September 4), with the second round’s schedule spread over four days. Highlights on the schedule include the derbies between APOEL and AEL, Apollon and Anorthosis, and Aris and Omonia.
