Over the past two days, there have been increasing reports in the Israeli media that the Turkish Navy has stepped up its presence in the waters off the coasts of Greece, Cyprus, and Syria.
According to well-informed IDF sources cited in today’s edition of the English-language Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post, the Israeli Navy has been placed on high alert in order to effectively respond to a potential armed conflict between Turkey and Israel in the Eastern Mediterranean, while the possibility that Turkey might increase its naval presence off the coast of the Gaza Strip cannot be ruled out.
Nordic Monitor: Turkish Preparations for a Possible “Provocation”
It is worth noting that the Turkish Minister of Defense, Yasar Güler reportedly submitted an internal confidential document on August 10 to the relevant parliamentary committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, which details the preparations of the country’s armed forces in the event that Greece and Israel engage in provocative actions, as stated in the document. This document was made public on August 23 by the Norwegian think tank Nordic Monitor
