River Plate continues to reap enormous financial benefits from Enzo Fernández, even four years after his departure from Buenos Aires.
The transfer of the 25-year-old Argentine midfielder from Chelsea to Manchester City, for 146 million euros, is expected to bring in yet another significant sum for the club that launched his career.
Specifically, River Plate is entitled to 3.37% of the transfer fee through FIFA’s solidarity mechanism. The amount is estimated at 4.92 million euros and will be paid in installments, depending on the terms and payment schedule of the transfer.
This agreement adds yet another chapter to an impressive financial story for River Plate and Enzo Fernández, as the Argentine midfielder has already brought in more money for the club than any other player to emerge from its youth academy.
From 2022 to the present, River’s total revenue from Fernández’s successive transfers and the related solidarity mechanisms has reached approximately 57.12 million euros.
It all began in the summer of 2022, when Benfica acquired the player for 18 million euros. River Plate had agreed at the time to retain 25% of his rights, a decision that proved to be extremely important for its finances.
A few months later, following Fernández’s impressive performance at the World Cup, Chelsea acquired him from Benfica for 121 million euros. From that deal, River Plate received 30.25 million euros thanks to the percentage of the transfer fee it had retained, while an additional approximately 4.2 million euros were added through the solidarity mechanism.
