Incorrect emails regarding preschool tuition: What happened

Corrective notices are being sent to parents
ALPHANEWSLIVE

A technical problem with the automated computer system caused the erroneous emails that parents received regarding the amount of the tuition subsidy for preschools and daycare centers, according to Fanos Kouroufexis, Senior Benefits Management Officer.

This was prompted by the confusion that arose late Tuesday afternoon, when dozens of parents received notifications indicating a reduced subsidy, resulting in the final amount they were required to pay appearing to be double or even triple the usual amount, Mr. Kouroufexis explained on the “Alpha Kalimera” show exactly what happened.

As he clarified, the platform automatically approves applications within a few minutes; however, yesterday was its first day of operation for the new school year.

“Due to a technical glitch, which we identified immediately after receiving reports from the public, incorrect messages were sent to several parents.”

At the same time, he noted that the platform was temporarily taken offline for a few hours to fix the error, and an official press release will be issued.

He also urged parents to ignore the messages they received and reassured those parents who “applied from day one that the previous message would be retracted and they would receive a new email informing them of the correct subsidy amount to which they are entitled.”

Referring to the program’s structure, he emphasized that all recipients of the child allowance are eligible, for which the income criteria were expanded this year. The subsidy can cover up to 80% of tuition fees, deducted directly from the final cost (for example, up to 160 euros on 200 euros in tuition fees).

Finally, Mr. Kouroufexis noted that the child’s age is also taken into account, as the subsidy for children aged 0 to 2 is 100 euros higher than for children aged 2 to 4, given that the cost of care for infants is significantly higher. As he noted, beneficiaries can visit the agency’s official website to check which category they fall into.
